Beginning 26th October 2009, all postings in RancakDisitu will be at our new URL:
http://www.rancakdisitu.com . This will be our permenant URL as the visitors are now raeched 23,000 (Twenty Three Thousand) since 24th May 2008. This blog has been the guidance and reference for many users in the internet. The roll-out of RON95, which began in May, also saw the phasing out of RON92 petrol which was used by only 5% of motorists.
In a media statement, Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumer Affairs Ministry director Datuk Ismail Ahmad said the government, through this move, aims to ensure that consumers enjoy quality petroleum products at subsidised prices.
At the same time the government also hopes to better manage the energy resources in the country and encourage energy efficiency and reduce the dependency on fuel subsidy.
RON95 is a fuel that abides by the EURO2M specification which is more environmentally friendly.
The sulfur content in diesel and petrol in accordance to this standard is reduced from 3,000 parts per million (ppm) to 500ppm, which means there is reduced emission and therefore expected improvement to air quality.
The EURO2M specification standard will commence tomorrow in tandem with the full implementation of RON95.
The sale of RON97 petrol will be continued as some high-powered vehicles can only run on this octane level.
The ministry acnowledged the barrage of comments it has received on the government’s move to introduce RON95 into the local market and the scepticism by motorists on the use of this product but said that the decision was made after taking into account the opinions and views from various parties and from all angles.
The main contention is that the RON95 petrol is suitable for most car engines and more so its contribution to improving the air quality.
RON is the acronym for Research Octane Number which measures the rate of knocking caused by the usage of a specific petrol grade in an engine. RON95 petrol refers to the 95% iso-octane and 5% n-heptane.
The RON95 is widely used in developed countries and the government together with a petrol companies started introducing this grade of petrol in selected areas around the Klang Valley and Putrajaya since May 12.
Statistics show an 80% usage of RON95 petrol in these stations against 20% for RON97.
There have been no complaints so far, said Ismail Ahmad in the statement.
A total 1,445 petrol stations around the country have started selling RON95 petrol ahead of the full implementation by the government today.
The ministry said the price of petrol and diesel is still going by Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) where the monthly average product price will stipulate the subisidy rate for a particular month.
