Kedah to Get Country’s Largest Oil Refinery

Kedah to Get Country’s Largest Oil Refinery Kedah is set to get the country’s largest oil refinery after Merapoh Resources Corporation Sdn Bhd penned an agreement to build its new facility in Yan, Kedah. The building of the refinery has been appointed to SK Group, a Korean-based corporation which owns one of the world’s largest oil refineries, which will embark on the engineering and construction work in due time. Once completed, the refinery is expected to start operating in year 2013. The plant will produce a wide range of chemicals including naphtha, gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas. The crude oil will be imported from the Middle East, mainly from Saudi Arabia, and upon processing would be transported to the Asian market. It will also eclipse the size of the current largest oil refinery, which is located in Melaka. Additionally, with the operating of the Merapoh’s new refinery, a major boost will be waiting for the employment market, where a large number of skilled and semi-skilled workers will be needed to accommodate the full running of the facilities. The project is estimated to cost more than RM10 billion ringgit. Berita Terkini oleh Matpit
